Dog Food Allergy
What should I feed my dog with food allergies?
After just spending £36 on a 2 week supply of Hills z/d food for my staffy/lab can you recommend a good homemade diet for a dog with food allergies? or a cheaper product?…this cost is on top of his steroid injections every 10 days until he is better .(he is insured but this doesnt cover the food needed to keep him well). Does anyone use a diet that has worked ?we also have another dog and 2 cats to care for hence the cost issue!
Thanks for the great answers so far.He has had tests at the vets to determine the allergy including blood tests but the results didnt show what it was! but he is suffering with sore and itchy skin and has gone bald around his eyes.
I’ve recently changed my german shepherd with food intolerance to royal canine sensitivity. A big bag which is about £40 (14kg) last almost a month. Another option is burns dry food (venison) – this is recommended for food intolerance (approx £33/ month). It depends if you know exactly what he is allergic to. I was told usually it is an intolerance to the protein source eg chicken.
My dog was eating poorly, losing weight and had serious diarrhoea but all that has cleared up over the last few weeks with royal canin sensitivity as recommended by my vets.

My pet insurance also covers me for the a clinical diet if recommended by the vet so i am managing to claim it on his insurance. (kennel club insurance)
