How do I control my dog’s weight? She is at least 30 lb overweight! Help.?
Hi,
I have a dog named Licorice. She is a 5 year old, spayed, Newfoundland female. I used to give her free choice dog food and she was fine with that until I got her spayed at 3 years old. She weighed 135lb, two months after I had her spayed she weighed 175lb. I realized (to late) that she needed a diet. So I controlled her food to the recommended guide on the side on the purina bag. She still gained weight, eventually I gave her half the amount. After I did this, she lost about 20lb in 6 months. Then she stayed the same weight for about a year. In the last months or so (on the same diet) she gained all her weight back! Plus she is limping a bit.
I walked her for a while before she had her limp, and then I gradually stopped because her limp got worse.
Should I limit her diet further?

after a spay they gain more weight then not being spayed…my neighbor has one of my pom pups from last year she was spayed in april she gained 12 lbs after being spayed and they are having a hard time getting the weight off her..she weighs 24 lbs her normal weight is 12 lbs…vet told her if she didn’t get the weight off her she would have a heart attack..
