Homemade Cat Treats Recipes, How Did I Come To This
I have been trying to figure out what a confirmed dog lover (for over 60 years) is doing looking for a bunch of cat treat recipes. I am not sure, but I think it started about five years ago when the two toy poodles we had died with in a few days of each other. We were not totally taken by surprise when this happened, since Heinz and Pepper had been “best buds” for most of their lives. They were both old (they were 16 and 14 years old) and we knew they would die soon, but still their passing had left a void that would be difficult to fill.
We are living with our daughter and her family, so we know that even though my wife and I are not planning to get any more pets, there are going to be plenty of pets in our lives. My wife and I have been trying to limit the number of pets we have, since we are near retirement and we would like to travel, but having pets (especially dogs) would cause a lot of inconvenience for everyone involved and we did not want that. Several years ago, I remember hearing someone, spout off that pets were pets and would never really be a part of any family. That person obviously never had a puppy to give him lots of kisses or have a kitten lay curled in his lap purring. I really do believe that poor person must have had a very deprived childhood. Since pets are definitely part of the our family, leaving them behind while you travel, especially after they have become attached to you, and you to them, would make it hard for everyone.
Over the next few years we have managed to accumulated another nice collection of pets, my daughter has a 115 pound Lab who believes that he has just as much right to the chairs and couches as anyone else and then there are the three cats. The youngest cat (Tiger) is my oldest granddaughter’s pet, who said that she wanted a kitten for her birthday last year. Now I am not sure how or when it happened, but over the next year, Tiger (according to my wife) has claimed me for his very own. I totally convenience that all four of the pets know who the soft touch is, and that I am the only one in this household that is able to speak dog and cat, (I am the only one that seems to understand what they want). They now come to me when they want food, water, play time, needing to go outside (the dog) and lap time (especially Tiger).
Tiger has this obsession to be around me, there will be times when he will climbing up the front of me while I am trying to work at the computer so he can curl up in the crook of my arm (which makes it really difficult to work). Then when I am sleeping and roll over on my side, he will climb on top of me and finds a nice comfy spot to sleep while I am trying sleeping with this tail swishing in my face which is really disconcerting. He also seems to think that any food or drink I might have, is fair game and I should be sharing it with him (more than once I have pulled his head out of my coffee cup). He also seems to believes the dog should be sharing his dinner and it is quite humorous when I give the dog some huge dog bones as a treat, Tiger is bound and determine to have some too. I just laugh watching this silly cat try to take a bite out of this huge dog bone and seeing the frustration of both the dog who is trying to eat his treats with the cat in the way and the cat trying the best he can to take a bite out of one of these huge treats.
I decided that maybe I could find some recipes for cat treats that would be healthy for all three cats (my son-in-laws cat is really getting old). After doing some research, I picked out some recipes and made plans to bake some treats for these cats (and also trying to figure out how to keep the dog from sharing). I really love the names of some of the recipes I found, like “mouseburger bites” and “chicken crunchers” and let’s not forget “kitty Kisses”. All the recipes I have found use grains, meat or fish and of course a little bit of catnip (now and then) and some beef or chicken broth all three of our cats really enjoyed them.
