Innova Dog Food Recall
Will Innova, EVO, and California Natural be turned into garbage dog food by Proctor and Gamble?
Proctor and Gamble has recently purchased Nutrena, the manufacturer of Innova, EVO, California Natural and a few other brands. P&G currently makes Iams and Eukenuba, neither of which are premium foods, and have had a number of recalls. I’d like your take on this buyout, especially if you currently use any of the Nutrena brands.

P&G does not need to list ingredient changes for 6 months. Bought Iams Co. (Eukanuba) in ’99 and changed formulation. Substituted chicken by-products for chicken, bran sorghum & barley for rice.

Unfortunately, it’s downright probable that all of these brands will turn to garbage inside of 12 months. I’ve fed my guy both Innova and Evo before, and I likely won’t again. “By-product meal” is simply more cost effective than actual meat, and since its use has become accepted, P&G won’t see any reason not to (slowly but surely) switch over. I’d change my pups over to a different grain-free or other high end food sooner rather than later, and watch Evo’s ingredients lists like a hawk in the meantime.
Also, you know it’s not good when the news wire piece on the acquisition said that “the terms of the deal were not disclosed”. That means that P&G is hiding something. Deal apparently won’t be done for a month. I, for one, will be watching intently. And I’ll not be reccomending Evo again for at least a long while.
