My dog has tear stains. any good meds?

My dog is a bishon mix. About 2 years old. My only problem is he has excessive tear stains. I was told by his groomer and vet that it could be his food. So i switched him to innova. It’s been only 3 weeks though so i’m assuming it takes time. Anywho. I just wanted to know are there some tips or meds that could help his tear stains? His dog groomer left his hair kinda long on the face so should i clip the hair around his eyes just so the tear stains wont be there? Any meds that are good? Preferably one that i could buy myself rather then ordering online. any tips will help. THANKS!
oh yea about cutting his hair around the eyes with the scissors. I’m scared it will look weird or uneven? any thoughts on that?

I cut my dog’s fur around their eyes every time I give them a haircut.
