Purina Dog Food Donations

Should the cost of dog food be such a problem?

Is the consensus on this site that a dog owner must feed raw meat or $12/pound kibble, or else give up the pet? What message does this send to people who want to be decent owners within a budget? Is Pedigree really that bad when so many dogs go 15 years on mid-range mass market dog food?
The expensive kibble I buy is only about 2 bucks a pound. And even that is pushing it for the kind of food I get, I could get it for less! What kind of food are you feeding?
