Can my 11 month old dog have Parvovirus?

My 11 month old dog has had blood and mucus in his stool for about 2 months now. I took him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics and hypoallergenic food. (Which didn’t work) I called the vet and he wants to do exploratory surgery that cost $1,000.00 =( I put him on boiled chicken and rice for a week 1/2 and then started purina 1 chicken and rice formula…He did okay on that but not much of a difference. So last night I gave him his food and he didn’t eat it, I noticed he threw up twice while I was away at work…it was clear fluid…The next morning he still refused to eat and had diarrhea in my living room that smelled horrible and was very dark in color…I looked up Parvo and I think he has the symptoms. But can it be Parvo if he has had symptoms for this long?

Absolutely it can be Parvo! Yes in most case parvo will come on strong and fast, but your dog could have it and have been able to fight it for a while. It does seem to be the symptoms, but only a vet can diagnose. It only takes a swab to the rectum to test, so I would take and have him tested. If it is, he needs treatment now! Please dont wait as I did, and I lost my baby to the nasty virus! Because he is 11 months, that could be why he has had some symptoms, but is now getting worse. His immune system is a little more advanced than say an 11 week old puppy. I would call the vet and see about getting this test done asap! Because if it is Parvo, you need to know so you can take the proper precautions. Such as cleaning up his vomit and stool with bleach water ect. As I am sure you have read, it is a very serious and highly contagious disease. Goodluck, and lets hope he gets well. Please post and let us know how he is doing and what the vet says!
